[MEMBER-ONLY EVENT] Roping Course for Practical Outdoors

MEMBER-ONLY EVENT CODE PF40u

Begin your 2024 with acquiring a new outdoor skill for your forest hikes. This roping course is a hands-on course intended to train and equip you with the knowledge on using ropes in your normal hikes - they are especially useful in hikes where you may encounter steep and challenging slopes that require ropes for safe ascend or descend; in some cases they can be applied to basic search and rescue situations.

Your trusty rope is the foundational tool; you will be introduced to the different types of ropes, their specific uses, and the right moments to bring them into play. Get ready to master a host of roping and relevant climbing knots along with picking up skills on affixing ropes to structures like trees. And by having just a single carabiner, this lightweight clip can be a lifesaver. Belaying is another crucial skill you will grasp. This technique allows you to safely secure someone (or even yourself) during a climb.

Please note that this is not a climbing course (read: technical climbing) that will involve many more things apart from above - this roping course is specially tailored to enable learners to quickly acquire the basic set of outdoor skills that they can easily deploy in all their hikes, minus the overwhelming volume of things to learn.

For this course to proceed, the required minimum participants are 8 with the maximum capped at 16 pax for it to be effective, which will allow everyone the opportunity to apply the skills learned in the forest environment. The course spreads over 2 separate days (on Sunday weekends) so that you have ample time in between to practise the knots. It is understood that you need to commit the dates (see below) - do consult your personal and work calendars as well as family schedule to avoid clashes. The course will be conducted in English.
