[REPORT] PF50u Mossy Paradise & Irau (via the Corybas Trail)

Corybas (pinkish orchid of a thumbnail size)

On 14 September 2025, 12 members scaled up the Corybas Trail in Cameron Highlands, to the wonderful Mossy Paradise forest (about 1,900 meter asl.). 5 of the 12 members braved up further to Gunung Irau (about 2,100 meter asl.).

The eager 12 at the trailhead (5 a.m.)

We were lucky to have climbed this mountain on a relatively clear day (mild shower in the afternoon). We started the hike at 5 a.m. and proceeded in the dark until we reached CP2. After taking a group photo at CP2, the team split up – with the fast hikers moved on quickly in order to reach Mossy Paradise soonest possible.

Last group photo at CP2 before we split up

Upon reaching CP4 Mossy Paradise, 5 hikers broke off from the team to scale up Gunung Irau. All the other 7 hikers spent some time marveling Mossy Paradise before descending back to the trailhead at Hikers’ Paradise.

7 hikers enchanted by the mossy forest at Mossy Paradise (11a.m.)

5 hikers, even more jubilant at Gunung Irau (2 p.m.)

For the record, the 7 Mossy Paradise hiker concluded their hike between 3-5pm. Due to unanticipated challenges encountered at between CP4 and Gunung Irau, the 5 Irau hikers only reached back at the starting trailhead at 10pm!

The Irau group struggled, struggled!

[REPORT] PF54u Lata Gapi (Selangor) Hiking & Plogging

Pathfinders have been known to hike fast in order to cover long distances. Worst still, if there is an easier way, we still choose a more challenging one just for the fun/thrill of it.

On 24 August 2025, we have decided to join the global 'slow-XXXXX' movement. We live in a world where time is too precious; hence we now have people going for slow-food, slow-shower, slow-this, slow-that. We slowed ourselves down by picking thrash in Lata Gapi Waterfall, Selangor.

The Lata Gapi trail is relatively clean when we compared with others. But still, we think we have collected at least 10kg of thrash. We think, slightly more than half of the weight were torn soles. Lata Gapi is such an easy trail, we think many first timers / beginners got their long unworn sport shoes torn out in there 😅.

Enjoy the photos of our plogging in action as well as our picnic.

Another name for Lata Gapi is Air Terjun Sungai Pendang

Pathfinders are well-known to be hiking fast to cover long distance trails. Many times, we failed to appreciate (or disgusted by) all the small things we see on the trails – flower, fungi, rubbish!

This round, we will do a short hike to a beautiful waterfall – but we will really slow down for the following:

  • Bird/damselfly-watching on the way in.
  • Mini-recce to the top of the waterfall (no guarantee it will lead us anywhere).
  • Plogging (pick rubbish) on our way out.

We adopt Leave-No-Trace (LNT) principles in all our outdoor activities.

Limited places. If you are successful, you will be added into a Telegram chatgroup for the event. More information will be provided in the chatgroup.

Closing date for registration: 15 August 2025.

All participants must agree to the waiver/release of liability clauses found here https://pathfinders.mnsselangorbranch.org/p/waiverrelease-of-liability-and.html

[REPORT] Genting Tea Estate (GTE) Educational Visit

Exclusive MNS Educational Visit to Dato' Henry Barlow's Genting Tea Estate

This month, Pathfinders SIG organised on behalf of MNS/MNSSB an educational visit to Dato' Henry Barlow's famed Genting Tea Estate, exclusively for MNS members.

A complete and engaging write-up on the recent visit is available at our Selangor Branch website. Here's a synopsis of the event: Participants enjoyed an exploration of this historic residence and its lush arboretum. The event offered rare insights into the estate’s fascinating history, native flora and fauna, and the conservation work led by Dato’ Henry Barlow—renowned for his contributions to natural history in Malaysia. With highlights including expert-led interpretive walk by En. Sofwan Badr, hands-on experiences with butterfly and moth collections, and heartfelt moments shared among nature enthusiasts, this account is filled with inspiration for anyone passionate about heritage and environmental stewardship. Head over to our branch site to read the full story, with pics!

Our event/trip adopted the 7 principles of Leave No Trace.
